To know
Como is the capital of the lake, which has always attracted tourists from around the world thanks to its natural surroundings. In fact, tourism on the Lario is one of the most profitable activities in the city and its surrounding areas, and has experienced some growth in recent years thanks to films and television series, such as Beautiful, Living and Star Wars, shot right on the lake, and the arrival of famous figures, such as Anna Oxa, Madonna, Ivana Spain, George Cloonas ey, Brad Pitt, Richard Branson, Gianni Versace and many others.
Geographical overview
Situated at the southernmost end of the western branch of the Lario, Como is in a small plane surrounded by hills, including the Colle Baradello, Monte Goi, Monte Caprino and Mount Cross with the cross of Sant’Eutichio, which is illuminated in the evening. The center of the Lariana city is built entirely on this plain, around the stream Cosia, which, as the city expanded, was buried. The suburbs, on the other hand, are at the foot of the above-mentioned packages and on the hills themselves.
The historic center of the city, which still looks like the original Roman city with its typical checkerboard plant, is surrounded by the well-preserved medieval walls around which the bypass roads have been built, the complex of which, along with the Trento and Trieste stretch together is known among the comaschi as the "sunset" (Viet) Varese, Viale Cattaneo, Viale Battisti, Viale Lecco).
When to go
Every season has its charm. Spring, though somewhat rainy, pushes out the door, during which it enjoys the extraordinary flowering of the gardens of villas on the lake and other spectacular landscapes. The often warm and hot summer is an occasion for many outdoor events (cinema projections, musical and theatrical performances, etc.). Autumn is a pleasant season from a climate point of view and characterized by spectacular colors and late blooms. Winter is dry and not particularly cold; in december, the city lights up with Christmas lights and souls with events.

What to see
The Larian capital is the city of Lake Como, Silk, Plinio the Young, Alessandro Volta, Giuseppe Terragni and Antonio Sant'Elia. It was an important medieval municipality and it waged a long battle with Milan. The walls of the Castel Baradello, which survives the tower and little else, and several Roman churches, among them the Basilica of St Abbondio, remain as evidence of that time. Also in the Middle Ages is the Broretta and the adjacent Dumani with the dome of Filippo Juvara, one of the main Gothic cathedrals of Alta Italia. The most recent story has also left significant testimonies, such as the monuments of Italian Rationalism (Casa del Fascius, Monument to the Dead, Novocomum), the neoclassical Villa Olmo and the Voltian Temple (museum dedicated to Alexander Volta). Furthermore, Como, which is located in the southwest end of the lake, is the ideal starting point for visiting the lake and is also a landscape-remarkable location.

Built at the behest of Innocenzo Odescalchi on a project by Simone Cantoni, where a large volume of wood is maintained, but modified and enlarged, retains the original neoclassical system. Among other things, it is a large hall with seven hundred - century frescoes, smaller rooms and a theater with 92 seats, surrounded by the fountain. From the Odescalchi, the villa passed to the Raimondes, to the Visconti of Modrone and finally in 1924 to the municipality, which used it as a site of cultural events, conferences and art exhibitions. Since 1982, the Center for Scientific Culture, "A.Volta", has been set up for international scientific and technical conferences, courses, conferences and exhibitions. The center, which is made up of local and Lombardy regional authorities, is linked to the universities of Milan, Pavia, Brescia and the Polytechnic University of Milan.
